Thank you for stopping by to read Periplum of mothering and other wonderings. It’s so good to have you here. I love to write, but I love it even more when my writing is meaningful to others. Primarily, I share \my reflections on parenting in a chaotic and often troubling, but ultimately beautiful world. Hopefully, they will resonate with you whether you are a parent or were yourself parented.
In case you were wondering…periplum comes from Latin and Greek and is a map of the land as seen by the sailors at sea. It is defined in Oxford English Dictionary as being “[o]riginally and chiefly in the poetry of Ezra Pound.”
"The great periplum brings in the stars to our shore," with periplum here refering to the Sun god, Helios’s daily journey (Canto 74, line 3). And then again “Periplum, not as land looks on a map/But as sea bord seen by men sailing,” (Canto 82, line 4). This then, is another perspective on mothering, from the ocean of parenting.
